Frequently asked questions

Where do the exchange rates come from?

All rates are the official reference rates published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR). The app fetches them directly from curs.bnr.ro — the same source banks and official institutions use. Valutix is not affiliated with BNR.

Why isn't today's rate showing yet?

BNR publishes the official daily rates on business days, after 13:00 (Bucharest time). On weekends, public holidays, or before 13:00 on a workday, the most recent published rate applies. The app refreshes automatically when new rates are available.

Can I use these rates for accounting or tax filings?

No. The values shown are for personal and informational use only. They are computed from the most recent available data and may differ from the rates required by banks or tax authorities. For official figures, consult bnr.ro or your bank directly.

My rate alert didn't fire — why?

Two things to check:

  • Notifications are enabled for Valutix in iOS Settings → Notifications → Valutix.
  • The alert is still enabled in the Alerts tab — fired alerts pause until you re-arm them.

Alerts are evaluated when the app refreshes new rates from BNR.

How do I change the app language?

Open iOS Settings → Valutix → Language and pick Romanian, English, or "Use system language". The app supports both Romanian and English fully.

How do I add or reorder favorite currencies?

In the app, go to Settings → Manage favorites. Tap Add currency to pick from the full list, drag to reorder, and swipe to remove. Favorites appear at the top of the home screen.

Does the app work without internet?

Yes. Valutix ships with over 20 years of historical BNR rates already on your device, so conversions, charts, and history all work offline. Internet is only needed to fetch the latest day's rates as BNR publishes them.

Why does JPY (or KRW, HUF, IDR, ISK) show extra decimals?

These currencies have very small unit values relative to RON (e.g. 1 JPY ≈ 0.029 RON). The app uses extra precision for them so the displayed rate stays meaningful. Amounts are always shown using the conventional decimal count for each currency.

Can I sync my data between devices?

Not currently — favorites, conversions, and alerts are stored locally on each device. This is intentional: the app collects no personal data and uses no cloud account. See the privacy policy for full details.
